Snyder's Shoe Store of Ludington and Manistee and Yaleet, distributors of NAOT footwear, have donated 120 pairs of shoes a $17,000 value to Communities Overcoming Violent Encounters. Yaleet and NAOT have been donating shoes to people in need since 1991.
COVE provides protection and advocacy to victims of domestic and sexual violence and homelessness. It has provided services to more than 5,500 individuals and families in Mason, Oceana and Lake counties. Its clients will
now get new shoes thanks to the donation.
COVE receives grants, seeks volunteers
COVE recently received a $116,702 grant for its Crisis Intervention Program from the Federal Crime Victims
Fund, established by the Victims of Crime Act of 1984. The agency provides the required match by use of 3,011 volunteer hours.
COVE needs the volunteers to be able to do this. The was supported by Crime Victim Assistance Grant Award given
to COVE by the Michigan Crime Victim Services Commission, Michigan Department of Community Health.
NEW CARPET
COVE also recently received a $3,000 grant from Great Lakes Energy People Fund to help replace a portion of carpet at COVE. Another $5,000 is needed to complete the project. Members of the Great Lakes Energy support the People Fund by voluntarily rounding up their bills to the next highest dollar. The rounded up amount is distributed to non-profit organizations and charitable activities that benefit people in communities served by the cooperative.
